Play Backgammon – The Classic Board & Dice Game
Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the world, blending luck, strategy, and skill. Two players race to move all their checkers around the board and bear them off before their opponent does. With every roll of the dice, you’ll weigh risks, make bold moves, and adapt your strategy.
Easy to learn, yet endlessly deep, Backgammon offers fast-paced, competitive fun that keeps you coming back for more.
How to Play Backgammon
The board has 24 triangles (points) divided into four quadrants.
Each player starts with 15 checkers arranged in a specific setup.
Players move checkers based on the roll of two dice, aiming to bring all checkers into their home board and then bear them off.
The first player to remove all checkers from the board wins the game.
Basic Rules:
You move your checkers forward based on the dice roll (each die is a separate move).
If you roll a double, you get four moves instead of two.
A point with a single opposing checker is called a blot—you can hit it, sending it to the bar.
A checker on the bar must re-enter before you can make other moves.
Tips & Tricks for Winning at Backgammon
🎯 Control Key Points
Try to hold strategic positions on the board (like your opponent’s 5-point) to block them and gain a tactical edge.
🎲 Balance Risk and Reward
Decide when to play it safe and when to make bold moves. Sometimes, leaving a blot is worth the risk if it gives you a better position.
⏱ Hit Blots When It Counts
Knocking an opponent’s checker to the bar can slow them down—especially if their home board is blocked.
🧱 Build a Prime
Create a wall (prime) of six consecutive occupied points to block your opponent’s checkers.
📦 Bear Off Wisely
When bearing off, remove checkers from higher points first. Don’t leave gaps that force you to waste moves later.
🧠 Think Ahead
Like chess, backgammon rewards planning. Don’t just react to dice—position yourself for strong rolls and defensive plays.
